My Mission Statement

For my GRA 440: Finding Purpose class this semester we had to write up a personal mission statement and design it to look aesthetically pleasing. Here is what my finished one looked like. I am really happy with how it all turned out and I was hugely inspired by vintage graphic design work on posters and advertisements. What would your personal mission statement say?

Beautiful Cut Paper Artwork!

This is so unique and so beautiful I had to share it! I would never have the patience or steady hand to make such a delicate thing! This was done by an artist by the name of Donna Ruff

Thanksgiving!

It is finally Thanksgiving break which means I get to fly back home to Colorado for the holiday weekend! I am so excited to see my family, see my dogs, and eat yummy home-cooked food! I haven’t been home since August, and even though this semester has flown by, I really miss my home, so it will be really nice to go visit. It will hopefully give me a chance to recharge and then when I get back, be ready to bust out all of my final projects and get through the stress of the last push of the semester! I can hardly believe its already this time of year!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Shirt DIY

I came across this amazing shirt DIY today that I absolutely adore! I have a shirt like this that I hope to give a new life by trying this out! I have an obsession with all things lace so this is right up my ally! I live in Arizona so this would also be perfect for all of those days that are cool but not cold enough for a full fledged long sleeved shirt since the back is mostly open. Find the full DIY on the lovely blog A Beautiful Mess.

Thankful

Thanksgiving is this week which means we all should take some time to think about the good things in our lives. I know I have a lot to be thankful for this year! It is very important to reflect on the good things in our lives and everything we have to be thankful for to make sure that we keep perspective in our lives. This year I have been trying to be more conscious  and gracious of all of the good things that I have. I have a roof over my head, food in my stomach, clothing on my back, I am in good health, I am receiving a world-class education and I have people who love and support me. That is a lot to be thankful for! It’s easy to get stuck in the rat-race that is life and loose perspective on all the good things that you have going for you. That’s why I think it is so important to think about these things not just at Thanksgiving, but all year.

Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed by stress and down about life, I take a moment to think about everything I am fortunate enough to have. Once I realize all of that it makes me gain perspective on the issues that were weighing me down and acknowledge that everything will work out and my problems aren’t nearly as big as they feel like they are. It puts me in check with reality when I really need it.

One of my professors told me that there has been research done showing that people who take the time to write down 5 thing they are thankful for each night before they go to bed, in a gratitude journal, have an increase in happiness and contentment in their lives. Your happiness “set-point” gets increased dramatically by that simple act. If something as easy as that can give you a boost in your overall life, why wouldn’t you do it? It is my goal to try to get in the habit of doing that, and you all should try it too!

Poogla: Wonderful wallpaper’s for your iphone, ipad, and an awesome source of inspiration!

A friend showed me a new website this week that I absolutely fell in love with! Its called Poogla. It is a website that you can go onto and go through hundred and hundreds of wallpaper’s for you iphone, or ipad. So that doesn’t sound that special does it? Well the great part about it is that each background you are choosing from is piece of art! All of the wallpaper’s are free, and they each have the artist who created them credited. Many even have links to the artist’s website! This is such a great way to get your art work out there and a true testament to our world today. I love looking at imagery and I draw so much inspiration from just going through images, so a website like this is a gold mine! Even if you don’t have an iphone you should go to this website and peruse the beautiful artwork that is on it! A wide range of styles are available, and I promise that they have at least one wallpaper that will catch your eye! And if you are anything like me, it will be impossible to choose just one!

Here are some of my favorites that I have spotted so far on Poogla!

Traits of Creative People

In one of my classes we discussed the traits of creative people and the list we ended up with was very intriguing I thought! Take a look and see if you identify with these characteristics, I know I do!

Beautiful Mixed Media Artwork by Jose Romussi

I stumbled upon these breathtaking pieces of mixed media artwork online and I absolutely love them! I am a huge sucker for old black and white photos, and I love mixed media so these were all right up my ally! The artist’s name is Jose Romussi, and he has a bunch of other awesome pieces on his website that you can find here. These pieces are photographs that he embroiders with thread and the results are gorgeous! I am now inspired to try to add stitching to my next mixed media project!

Craft time! Fun with jars

I am a huge fan of Mason Jars and I am constantly seeing adorable projects using them! It is getting closer to the holiday season which always puts me in full blown craft mode! I am thinking I want to do more projects like these using jars! I found these wonderful DIY’s off of Pinterest and I definitely want to try them out someday!

These are adorable fabric covered votives! See the full DIY here at Fellow Fellow.

These are another take on making jars into beautiful candle votives! I love the the old maps and book pages! This DIY can be found here at Arrow & Apple

This is a cute idea too! It would make a unique gift also! This DIY was found at Blissfully Content .
